What are the types of CNC machine tools?

  CNC machine tools are developed on the basis of ordinary machine tools. Various types of CNC machine tools basically originate from the same type of ordinary machine tools. CNC machine tools can be roughly divided into the following types according to their process uses.

(1) Metal cutting CNC machine tools. Refers to CNC machine tools that use various cutting processes such as turning, milling, boring, reaming, drilling, grinding, and planing, including CNC lathes, CNC drilling machines, CNC milling machines, CNC grinders, CNC boring machines, and machining centers. Cutting CNC machine tools were the earliest to develop, and now there are many types with large differences in functions. What needs to be emphasized here is that machining centers are also called CNC machine tools that can automatically change tools. This type of CNC machine tool has a tool magazine and automatic tool changing system. The tool magazine can accommodate 16 to 100 tools. The vertical machining center is suitable for processing workpieces with relatively small height and dimensions. Generally, except for the bottom which cannot be processed, the remaining five surfaces can be processed with different tools for contour and surface processing. Horizontal machining centers are suitable for processing large workpieces with multiple processing surfaces or workpieces with large height and dimensions.

(2) Metal forming CNC machine tools. Refers to CNC machine tools that use extrusion, punching, pressing, drawing and other forming processes, including CNC bending machines, CNC combination punches, CNC pipe benders and CNC presses, etc. This type of machine tool started late but is currently developing rapidly.

(3) CNC special processing machine tools. Such as CNC wire cutting machine tools, CNC EDM machine tools, CNC flame cutting machine tools and CNC laser cutting machine tools, etc.

(4) Other types of CNC equipment. Such as CNC three-coordinate measuring instrument, CNC tool setter and CNC plotter.

A variety of CNC machine tools provide us with many choices for processing various workpieces and bring more convenience to our production and processing.
